why would you ban this?

"Our policies should aim to strengthen families, not undermine them. And changing the definition of marriage would undermine the family structure," said Bush, who raised the issue's profile with an event at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

"Marriage between one man and one woman does a better job protecting children better than any other institution humankind has devised," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn. "As such, marriage as an institution should be protected, not redefined."

Traditional marriage, Bush said, is the cornerstone of a healthy society and the issue should be put "back where it belongs: in the hands of the American people."

I'm at the front desk today, but I had heard this morning on NPR that today was the day our great leader was going to push for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages and recognition of civil unions. I got a call a little while ago from CBS 11; they wanted someone to go on camera from Four A's, or as a public citizen, and speak his or voice about how they feel about the amendment. They wanted a leftist, preferably gay, which made me wonder if this was really a gay issue, or a matter of human rights and equality.

Who the fuck is Bush to bring an issue like same-sex marriage into the limelight just to garner backing from the conservatives to retain his following? It's pathetic. Political or not, it's wrong. Regardless of whether or not you support gay rights, or believe or don't believe gays can be good parents, I don't understand why it's such a big deal for them to have equal access to rights and justice. Fags wanna get married? Go for it. Are you that homophobic that you can't let two men or two women celebrate happiness and love?
